Addictedtodom

I finally had my first test shoot with Ed Maximus. I was really excited to finally be in front of the camera. I love photographers that give you feedback while still letting you move and be free of restrictions. Shooting was a breeze, we put together super simple casual looks for a basic test shoot and Ed decided to have to MUA/hairstylist wet my hair. This being the first time I'd ever shot with my hair wet, it made me a bit weary, but it ended up being something different and great for my book. Everything was kept very natural and soft. Before the shoot Ed had told me to come a bit early so he could try shooting something with me. When I arrived I found out he wanted to shoot me for a series he's doing. Every model he shoots for the series wears a particular long sleeve turtlekneck top or dress. Neji also has taken part in this series. It's very interesting. Each girl so far has had a totally different emotion shown through the pictures. For mine Ed decided to cover all of my hair and have me in very bendy, sculpture-like positions. Most of the time when something feels very uncomfortable and ugly to you, it creates something beautiful or a moment on camera. I love the photos and I'm super excited to add them to my book. Be on the lookout for more work from us.
Below are some of the final images from the shoot. The first four are from the Turtle Kneck series. Enjoy!

Abby

So from my last post I've been continuously working with Ed Maximus. We work well together and we both have the same aesethic when it comes to clothes and vision. He's very into dark moods and simple minimalistic clothing and that's what I'm most comfortable styling. I don't like to use jewelry and other accessories besides the occasional sunnies, rings, or hat, if I don't have to. I was able to get some pretty amazing peices for the shoot. It was pretty laid back, just a normal test for the model's book. My next post will be of my first shoot with Ed as the model. Much more from Ed and I to come!
Enjoy some final images from the shoot with Abby Hendershot.

Muse Me

One question I get constatly is what and/or who inspires me when it comes to my everyday style as well as my professional styling. The question always stumps me because honestly you don't think about it until someone asks you. So I finally sat down and decided to put all my inspiration in one place. This mood board is broken down into four categories. 1. Personal friends of mine that have a kickass style 2. A few people I've found on Instagram/YouTube/Blogs that keep me interested and inspired 3. People of recognition that have closets I'd kill for. I'm drawn to their style and work in fashion above anything. 4. The few models' street style that I constantly stalk. 5. Designers that have and probably will remain favorites of mine. The ones that never cease to inspire me. All pictures will be at the bottom and in order. (Listings are in no particular order in terms of favoritism) Hope you enjoy! xx

Category One
1. NYC Stylist Jahulie, Instagram: @Jahulie
This beautiful soul has become my overall fashion inspiration. He's able to create completly original head to toe looks in minutes. If I could have him dress me everyday for the rest of my life, I would.
2. Chris, Instagram: @chrismichael
Chris is always dressed to the nines everytime I see him. I love when people aren't afraid to expand their wardrobe outside of the expected pants and a t-shirt for everyday life. I'm always excited to see what kind of bowtie and sunglasses he's wearing.
3. Brandon, Instagram: @brandonligons
Brandon and I just met not too long ago and the first thing I noticed about him was his style. So well put together and he's the type of person that wears a sort of uniform. He's a master at minimalism and it's usually black and/or white with mixed porportions.

Catch My Eye

For me there aren't a huge amount of photographers that catch my eye. Don't get me wrong there is a huge amount of talent out there, especially in New York City, but when a photographer catches my eye it's usually something that sets them apart from the pack. Whether it be their personal aesthetic, editing style, personal shooting style, or their story (background). Ed Maximus was definitely one of those people for me. Originally it wasn't his fashion photography that drew me in. I really love his nude and artistic work. The area on his webside titled "Personal Works" is very intriguing. When a photo is more than one dimention and visually stimulating, it's very exciting. It makes you feel. Ultimately I think every photographer hopes to accomplish this sooner or later, and I believe Ed has it. To top it all off he's a super down to earth nice guy who truly loves what he does. Someone I hope to keep working with in the future.

I was super excited when I finally got the chance to work with Ed on July 3rd. I styled a test shoot for him. The beautiful model was Meghan Wiggins from One Model Management. The amazing team was hairstylist Nigella, @hairbystylistnigella and MUA Angelina, @angelinaangelina on Instagram. The day was relaxed and the conversation was great. Definitely a shoot to remember. Thanks Ed!
Below are a few final images from the shoot.

Celiac Confessional

One huge reason why I wanted to include health and nurtrition in this blog is because Nejilka and I both have gone through huge diet, skin, and medical problems and changes within the course of a few years. Partly for health reasons, and partly for our dream. Along the way we've both heard many opinions, gone to doctors, and done lots of research ourself to find solutions. If anything to make a not so desirable situation tolerable. I want to put my personal experiences out there just incase someone else is going through the same things I am and feels kind of lost. You're never alone. Among other topics, our blog will talk about Asthma, Celiac disease, Chronic Allergies, Migranes, Acne, Weight loss and gain, etc.
I believe I was diagnosed with Celiac disease back in either 2009 or 2010 when I was still living in Texas. I just remember sitting in my Gastroenterologist's office nerveously awaiting my results from an Endoscopy and Biopsy I had gotten done not long before. A little background on my situation...I was having lots of medical problems back in 08 to 09. Everything I ate would hurt my stomach. I would eat and become bloated and crampy within a few minutes. I was burping for almost an hour after meals. I was also seeing a Migrane Specialist. Mine were so bad I had to be in a blacked out room curled in a ball. I couldn't stand without becoming sick and half my vision would be blurred and spotty. I feel like I was spending most of my high school years in a doctor's office. I was definitely the kid that missed so much school they almost couldn't walk the stage. After finally being fed up my family doctor referred me to a Gastroenterologist...skipping forward. I was finally diagnosed with Celiac disease and being lactose intolerant.
Celiac disease is a condition that damages the lining of the small intestine and prevents it from absorbing parts of food that are important for staying healthy. The damage is due to a reaction to eating gluten, which is found in wheat, barley, rye, and possibly oats. Back when I was diagnosed with Celiac disease it was still very new and most doctors didn't really know what it was or what to prescribe for it. Along with the doctors, the selection in most supermarkets was a small dingy corner of one isle marked "Gluten Free". Horribly unappetizing packaging and since most of the population isn't gluten free, the food wasn't fresh. Most of the things I tried in the beginning were experimental. I think the hardest part of it all is eating out. It's a constant struggle to go have fun with friends and when the topic of food comes up everyone turns to look at you with the "Well...what CAN you eat?!" face. No pizza. No burgers. No chinese food. Nothing that's quick and easy. For the most part, my whole diet consists of some meat, fruit, vegetables, nuts, and sweet potatoes. It does wonders if you're trying to loose weight, but the downside definitely outweights the good, feeling constantly fatigued and malnourished.
Four years later and I truly believe I'm just now starting to get the hang of my diet and what works and what doesn't. I'm learning how to control my hunger and cravings, and I'm constantly researching for new options. I recently found out they're working on a pill for Celiac disease and gluten sensitive people so fingers crossed that turns out to be a success. In the furture I'll share recipes, food, and products that work for me and that I've enjoyed.
Below are some facts about Celiac and a more in depth picture of what it looks like.

Mystery Femme

It's an amazing feeling when you're able to work with a great team who loves and appreciates the work you do. This was a day of beautiful chaos. Shooting in the middle of the day in New York is always difficult. Tons of people, cars, and constant wardrobe changes was a lot to deal with, but it was well worth it. The story told by Fernando Paz was a woman who's throwing out the old and bringing in the new. She's moved on from a heavy heart and realizes she's strong enough to stand on her own. She's mysterious and ready for a new beginning. Here's my latest styling work for Cihuah, a French fashion brand born in Mexico, by French designer Vanessa Guckel.

Big thanks to everyone who was involved!!
